The aim of CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Marketing is to equip you with the skills, knowledge and understanding to perform professionally in a support-level marketing role. Successful completion of this marketing qualification, will establish a good understanding of the wider role of marketing and how your practical skills can be applied to future career progression.
The Foundation Certificate in Marketing is aimed at those either in a job that already involves marketing or those who wish to find out about marketing with the intention of starting out on a marketing career.

What is provided?
Saturday study sessions to accommodate the needs of busy professionals. Students must pass two modules, each of which are taught across three Saturdays (typically 9.30am-4pm), depending on the requirements and design of each module.
You will study in a professional business environment at the Coventry University, and the fee includes:
- facilitated group learning activities providing face-to-face opportunities for discussion and engagement of marketing topics with like-minded professionals;
- online study support which includes access to Coventry University’s extensive online library of books, case studies and journal articles.
In order to attain the Certificate you are required to complete two modules - one mandatory and one elective - all assessed by the CIM. (Students also have the option of studying an individual module as a Level 3 Award).
This module provides an understanding of the key concepts and terminology used in marketing. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the role and function of marketing within organisations, and explores the factors that influence consumer behaviour. It identifies key components of the marketing environment and enables an appreciation of how to collect and utilise relevant information about the marketing environment. It outlines the concepts and elements which make up the marketing mix and how these are applied in context (assessment by exam).
This module provides an understanding of how marketing communications can be used in practice to engage with customers. It enables appreciation of the customer and considers the importance of understanding the nature of customer relationships, and how those relationships are managed and monitored. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the purpose and process of marketing communications and the range of communication tools available. It explores how to develop a successful marketing communications campaign and outlines how the campaign can be put into practice (assessment by assignment).
This module provides an understanding of what is meant by digital marketing and the key communication tools used. It outlines the key factors that influence the digital consumer including social networks and virtual communities. It identifies the importance of developing campaign content aimed at specific market segments and how campaigns can be measured (assessment by assignment).
How will this course be taught
Each module will include taught sessions which will take place, for most modules, on three Saturday study days, usually running from 9:30am to 4.00pm. In addition students will have access to the University’s extensive online library resources, and will be supported by individual tuition. Students are expected to undertake extensive independent study to support their in-class learning and to prepare for successful completion of CIM assessments.

Each module will involve some 80–90 hours study time, of which about one third will take place on, in most cases, three Saturday study days, generally running from 9:30am to 4.00pm.
In addition to taught sessions students are expected to undertake extensive independent study to support their in-class learning and to prepare for successful completion of CIM assessments.
It is not necessary to have any previous experience or knowledge of marketing. However, if English is not your first language, you will also need to demonstrate you’ve achieved one of the following English language qualifications within the last two years:
- IELTS Academic Module with an overall score of 6.5 (each component pass mark must be 6.0 or above);
- Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English grade B or above.
