About the group

Our research in Materials, Mechanics and Measurements builds upon Coventry University’s leading expertise in materials engineering to combine the latest measurements methods with research into the advances surrounding mechanical properties and material processing.

Our aim is to support industry via a cohesive approach to the supply chain. We focus on not only the mechanical properties of the materials themselves but also production methods to facilitate the development of components that:

  • Are safer, stronger and longer lasting
  • Use less toxic, less scarce and more recyclable materials
  • Have a minimised carbon footprint via lower energy/waste/emissions during manufacturing and processing compared to existing material production methods

Key current areas of interest include:

  • Sustainable advanced manufacturing and the circular economy
  • Lightweighting for transport applications
  • Energy materials for energy generation and storage applications

All of these combine to advance sustainability in Grand Challenge areas as recognised by the UK government.
