Funding options for postgraduate study

Postgraduate funding is not straightforward and will require some research on your part.

Before you begin your search for funding it is worth taking the following into consideration:

  • Funding opportunities can be very competitive. Ensure your application is of high quality.
  • Plan ahead! Start looking at funding opportunities as early as possible. The application process can start very early in the admissions cycle.

Below we have provided some details of some scholarships and postgraduate funding opportunities to help get your search started.

The Scholarship Hub is a useful tool to guide you through the options of postgraduate funding from scholarships to bursaries.

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI works in partnership with universities, research organisations, businesses, charities, and government to support researchers. Coventry has had recent success with winning funding from the UKRI; Prof Benny Tjahjono was a recipient of PGR funding support from the Global Challenges Research Fund.

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Now part of the UKRI, the ESRC is the UK's largest organisation for funding research on economic and social issues. They support research which has an impact on business, the public sector and civil society. Details of studentships can be found on their website.

Leverhulme Trust. A charitable trust that provides scholarships for research and education. Leverhulme offers a number of scholarships for Doctoral candidates, details of which can be found on their website.
