Economics, Finance and Accounting
With a team of academic staff that combine a sound academic background with strong professional skills, the school is a leading provider of academic and vocational courses in the areas of Economics, Finance and Accounting not only in the UK but globally. Additionally, we continue to strive to improve the quality and quantity of our research in order to enrich our students’ experience and make a positive impact on society. The school continues to strive to provide students with career relevant programmes that develop their skills, knowledge and understanding to ensure they are highly employable global citizens.
As a School we maintain and improve our very high NSS scores which currently stand as: 100% in BA Accounting and BA Economics courses. We also continue to maintain and improve our standing in the Guardian Subject League tables – we are currently ranked 6th in the UK for both Economics provision (Guardian University Guide 2019). We regularly review and renew our curriculum to offer exciting, relevant career focussed courses to both students and employers. We are aiming to build and grow our international collaborations and offer our provisions to a wider global market. We also maintain our professional accreditations (in Accounting, Finance and Investment), while forging links with our commercial, public sector and overseas institutional partners. We offer the chance to undertake multidisciplinary research that has relevance to society and impacts on our teaching.
Marketing and Management
The School of Marketing and Management is home to a diverse range of courses in three key areas: Sport & Event Management, Human Resource Management, and Marketing & Advertising. Such diversity is reflected in the wide range of industry and academic experience held by our academic staff. The future employability of our graduates is central to everything we do. Our programmes are developed to be career relevant and to develop students skills, knowledge and understanding. Supported by a dedicated Employment Personal Tutor our students graduate as highly employable global citizens.
In addition to teaching expertise the department has a strong reputation for the quality of our research. In addition to the direct positive impact of our research, our students benefit from the use of research to influence the development of our teaching.
Our Marketing courses are accredited by the Charted Institute of Marketing (CIM), providing students the opportunity to study for a dual award. Human Resource Management students benefit from our status as a Charted Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) approved centre providing the opportunity to gain CIPD qualifications alongside their degree. The Guardian University Guide 2019 ranked us as No. 4 UK University for Hospitality, Event Management and Tourism.
