Colin Poole

RESEARCH SUBJECT AND INTERESTS

Currently, I am undertaking practice as research around whiteness from the perspective of a person of colour and in particular how race-based trauma circulates in that self-conscious moment of identity when the white person realises their own whiteness.

BIOGRAPHY

Colin is a London born and based independent choreographer whose work has received regular funding and toured extensively throughout the UK and abroad. He has been an associate artist at The Place, Royal Opera House and GDA, received an ACE fellowship and been a runner up for the Jerwood and Place prize choreography awards. His work is concerned with antagonism, race and power which he explores through solo, ensemble and duet forms. Solo work includes ‘Joyride’ at British Dance Edition (2014) and Danshallerne Copenhagen (2014). He works in the duet form with Simon Ellis as Colin, Simon & I and works include ‘Our White Friend’ (2016) at Siobhan Davies Studios and ‘A Separation’ (2014) at Lilian Bayliss London, Hate Festival Luxembourg (2016) and Open House Festival Cyprus (2014).
