After graduating from the Universities of Strathclyde (BA Hons) and Aberdeen (Ph.D) Tom became a lecturer at Lanchester Polytechnic (now Coventry University). Over many years he taught economic history, economics and strategic management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
