Research themes
The Centre for Sport, Exercise and Life Sciences (CSELS) undertakes interdisciplinary scientific research to understand life from the molecular level through to the whole body.
Our research can be split into two broad areas; Integrative Biosciences and Physical Activity, Sport and Exercise Sciences.
Integrative Biosciences
Research in this area is overseen by Professor Derek Renshaw. We cover a broad range of disciplines with a focus on translation of research findings into real world impact. We work in partnership with a range of industries and publish regularly on aspects of fundamental cell biology in relation to RNA stability, cancers, diabetes and cardiovascular disease and toxicity; receptor ligand interactions for modelling and drug discovery applications, as well as vaccine stability and bioleaching.
