Group Policy Unit
The University's Policy Engagement activity is overseen by the Group Policy Unit who support the long-term strategy of engaging and informing relevant politicians, policy makers and enabling organisations of the strengths of the University as a large institution, a key player in the West Midlands economy and its recognised teaching excellence (TEF Gold Award).
The Group Policy Unit builds links with external representatives from local, national and international government, political parties and informs the university leaders of policy changes that will impact on the achievement of outpoints and outcomes as defined in the University's Corporate Strategy.
Tracking the current external environment and aligning with the University's strategic priorities, the Group Policy Unit focuses its policy engagement activity on the following areas:
- Flexible learning to suit the needs of students and meet the requirements of employers
- Promoting excellent teaching and enabling all students to succeed
- Collaborating with industry and applying expertise to support local communities and drive innovation.
- Research with impact.
Consultations and Inquiries
Responding to calls for evidence from Government Departments and Select Committees through submission of consultations papers.
Reaching out nationally and building relationships with figures such as Government Ministers, Senior Officials, Select Committee Members, Shadow Ministers at Westminster and Whitehall and ensuring that Coventry University is represented in relevant discussions.
Working regionally to influence the local industrial strategy through engagement with local MPs and Councillors; Coventry City Council; The West Midlands Combined Authority and the Coventry & Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership - whilst also collaborating with our regional University partners through the West Midlands Combined Universities.
The Policy Unit also runs events, or partners with other bodies to engage with stakeholders and position the University as a lead thinker in particular areas.
