Coventry University is a proud signatory of the Technician Commitment, an initiative sponsored by the Gatsby Foundation and covering a number of University and Research Institution which aims to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for all technicians working in higher education, whether directly involved in supporting students or working within research areas.
We have published our approved Action Plan, developed in conjunction with our Technical Community, below setting out our aims over the next few years, with indicative timeframes and details given where appropriate; these may change in response to external factors unknown at the time of creating the plan.
Engagement and involvement from the Technical community is vital to the success of the plan, and so there are termly Technician forums which bring together Technicians from across the University, as well as a Technician Commitment working group featuring technical Champions from each area. The action plan aims to firmly embed the Commitment areas into all aspects of University life and develop a community of professional practice for our Technicians.
The plan was approved by the Gatsby Foundation in April 2020 and runs from June 2019 to June 2021 and our plan and Self Evaluation document outlines the progress made so far as well as our key priorities. The University acknowledges the immense importance of technical roles and the impact of this on the student experience, and so was keen to become a signatory of the Commitment.
