Students can get involved with a range of activities including: 3D printing, laser cutting, use of workshop machinery and hand tools

How does the School of Art and Design use the studios?

The facility is interlocked closely with all courses in the School of Art and Design. Anything that needs to be created in 3D goes through this workshop.

What equipment/software is available for students to use?

  • Printers
  • Digital software
  • 3, 5 and 7-axis machines
  • Laser cutter (manned by staff only)
  • Scanners

How can students interact with the facility?

Students interact with this workshop frequently as it can be very physical work. Students are given an introduction to using the machines and tools before use.

What services and support are provided?

We provide 1-2-1 sessions, class/group demonstrations, and walk-in sessions.

What access do students have?

The workshop is open Monday to Friday, 9am-12:30pm and 2-4:30pm. Open to all faculty students but students not in the School of Art and Design must request for induction session.

Who are the specialist technicians for the workshop?

Gary Perkins and Paul Taylor.

Part-time technicians: Roger Cooper and Peter Phillips.
