The degree has also been developed to closely reflect the competencies promoted by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI*). Upon completion of the course, you can progress to become a member of the CMI, which will support your continuous professional development as your career progresses.
Coventry Universitys accreditation with CMI is currently ongoing for the relevant modules, but is frequently reviewed and monitored by the CMI through their quality systems. If any changes occur with respect to our accreditation related to these modules, we will seek to notify applicants and students as soon as possible.

On successful completion of your degree, you will achieve a CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management & Leadership. This means you graduate with two qualifications instead of one, an attractive prospect to employers. Students who undertake this course are awarded membership for the duration of the course and one year after graduating for free. This valuable membership gives students access to resources, journals and professional insights while putting students in the same arena as practising managers.

The course is designed to develop the attributes expected by employers of 21st-century business graduates and brings to the fore key concepts such as multicultural and international engagement, innovation and digital fluency, and community contribution and responsibility.
The course’s core strength is its building of academic provision around professional body standards. Specifically, in addition to the academic qualification gained, you will be registered with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) for the duration of your course*.
Engagement with advanced academic study within the vast and diverse business world is also a key component of the course, as is a strong emphasis on the practical and responsible application of management and leadership theory that will enable you upon successful completion to confidently embark on graduate employment and/or postgraduate study in a diverse, multi-disciplinary global arena.

During this course, you’ll tackle concepts such as multicultural and international engagement, innovation and digital fluency, and community contribution and responsibility.
The course is designed with a strong emphasis on the practical and responsible application of management and leadership theory that upon successful completion will enable you to confidently embark on graduate employment and/or postgraduate study. There is also an emphasis on using case studies as a pedagogical approach to facilitate learning which is situated in real-life contexts. You’ll also be taught in a collaborative manner in order to mirror the kind of team working you’ll encounter when you enter employment.
Online participation for the course is wholly virtual, with tutorials playing a significant role in successful delivery and completion of assessments. Facilitation in all modes of study consists of a variety of teaching and learning approaches to ensure full interactivity and differentiation with learners. This degree enjoys participation from a diverse range of students who are encouraged to work collaboratively during sessions where their personal cultural diversity adds significant impact to the whole programme.
The learning outcomes of modules, assignments and projects should be clearly stated. Your work will be marked in accordance with the learning outcomes and your final feedback will refer to each outcome, as well as providing an overall percentage grade.
Assessment methods vary and may include: group and project performance, written reports, project thesis, oral presentations, tutorial tasks and assessments that take place at the end of each six-week block.

A student who successfully completes the course will have achieved the following course learning outcomes:
- Role of Organisations – students will demonstrate their understanding of how organisations serve the needs and requirements of a variety of different stakeholders and the development and delivery of organisational strategy/tactics/operations regardless of business context.
- Communication – students will demonstrate practical skills required in organisational communications with a range of diverse stakeholders across a wide variety of organisational types/settings (Private sector; Public sector; Voluntary; Not for Profit). This will support their ability to liaise effectively with the various departments within the business environment.
- Innovation and Creativity – students will be equipped with the confidence to be innovative in their thinking, in order to be able to fully contribute to the development of business approaches; they will learn to recognise that management and leadership are dynamic entities that are more of an art rather than a science and how their personal skills contribute and make positive impacts on performance results across all areas of business activity.
- Entrepreneurship – providing students with the understanding of the skills and attributes required to develop both entrepreneurial and ‘intrapreneurial’ ideas in a variety of management and leadership settings, which affords them opportunities to contribute effectively in business environments. Students should be able to work collaboratively with a people from a range of cultures; they should be able to articulate effectively and build relationships using emotional intelligences and empathy.
- Management – students should have the skills to analyse and evaluate a range of managerial tools and techniques to deliver organisational outcomes, people development and strengthening the core activity of the organisation itself. A significant change in the business environment has been to drive up productivity, of product output and performance of its people. Students will show understanding of leadership, management and development of people and organisations including the implications of the legal context; looking at behaviours, design and development of organisations, including cross-cultural issues, change, diversity and values.
- Leadership – students develop skills such as communication for impact, team building, leadership competencies and motivating a range of staff to set and achieve objectives. They will study approaches to be effective leaders and graduates with an in-depth knowledge of their own behaviours and how they affect others. This all derives from the study of self-reflection: self-analysis and an awareness/sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and cultures.
- Research – students analyse and evaluate a range of management data (primary and secondary), information and potentially management knowledge that aids reliable and consistent decision-making. This includes the need for strong digital literacy, and to use that research for evidence-based decision-making.
- Internationalisation – students will be equipped with relevant knowledge of these areas to be able to effectively operate within the global business environment. They will demonstrate knowledge on global issues, ensuring they have developed attributes and capabilities to become global professionals/citizens and successfully enter the international work environment.
During your study, you’ll have access to an experienced team, currently including associate lecturers, progression coaches and student experience officers, who’ll support your studies through regular feedback and dedicated live seminars.

We pride ourselves on offering competitive tuition fees which we review on an annual basis and offer a wide range of scholarships to support students with their studies. Course fees are calculated on the basis of what it costs to teach each course and we aim for total financial transparency.
