Employers want graduates who are not just academically qualified, but also work-ready with professional skills in enterprise, problem-solving, critical thinking and analysis. Underpinned by international business practice, this course aims to provide you with the breadth and depth of practical skills, knowledge and expertise to help to potentially become a confident and successful business manager, capable of providing a competitive edge in the global corporate environment.
Your advanced studies of management theory, in areas such as project management, applied marketing, logistics and supply chain, will be repeatedly reinforced with real-life practical and responsible application – through case studies, work placements*, field trips and industry-sponsored projects (subject to availability, a competitive application process, additional costs and/or meeting applicable visa requirements). Each module adheres to the Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME), promoting personal and professional ethical behaviour by presenting a range of ethical dilemmas designed to expose you to professional codes of conduct. You will also be given the opportunity to undertake continuing professional development (CPD) workshops in personal understanding, business awareness and core business skills to help ensure you are workplace ready on graduation.
In Year Three, you will have the opportunity to undertake an optional 12-month work placement*, in the UK or overseas. Our Faculty employability team, will offer support in helping you secure a placement. Past placements secured by students have included with high-profile firms in aerospace, retail, technology and luxury goods.
As well as our focus on corporate engagement and responsible management, you should discover an international theme running throughout your studies, with many modules applying business management principles in a global context. This focus is further supported by the diversity of our students and staff, who currently come from a wide variety of different countries, sharing their experience of cultural and organisational differences from around the world – which can often make or break a business opportunity. You can also gain the opportunity of a valuable international business experience by attending an international field trip*.

This course is available on a three-year full-time basis or a four-year sandwich basis, where between Years Two and Three there is one year of work experience or study abroad*.
The Business School's employability team will be able to assist you in finding a suitable placement, which can help you to put your studies into practice, providing the opportunity to gain valuable experience of the world of work. Placements have previously been obtained in a huge range of organisations, including in the automotive, logistics and technology sectors.
We have a range of partners where you can undertake a study abroad year during your third year. These currently include, amongst others: Oulu University (Finland), Aachen University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Silesian University, Opava (Czech Republic), Cornvinus University, Budapest (Hungary). This route gives you the opportunity to add an international dimension to your course by experiencing the teaching and learning environment of an international institution. You have the chance to appreciate the language and culture of another country, which should help to enhance your interpersonal skills and, in turn, your potential employability prospects.
Wherever possible, we will expose you to the real world of business – at times through input from guest lecturers from industry or experts in the field (subject to availability), which have previously included Enterprise Rent-a-car, Severn Trent and Manchester Airports Group. Our programme of industry visits similarly provides the chance to experience industry and commerce first-hand with past students visiting Samsung and Hyundai's facilities in South Korea, the European Parliament and Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and training at the Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai*.
A developing feature of the course is the use of ‘Collaborative Online International Learning’ projects. These involve students interacting with international students and staff from partner institutions in order to bring different business perspectives and a new cultural dimension to their studies. In the past, we have linked up with students at universities in Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and Hungary to investigate the intercultural skills most critical to successful international collaboration. In a previous project for the 'Critical Issues in Globalisation' module, past students worked with students at the Universidad del Pacifico in Lima to analyse a business case study about a famous Peruvian chef who sought to internationalise his brand, comparing their differing national perspectives.

What I enjoyed most about University was the social aspect, whether it was interacting with my lecturers or my peers, national or international. Almost everyone was an absolute joy to know. Now I have these connections I would never have if I hadn’t gone to university.

EU nationals starting in the 2020/21 academic year remain eligible for the same fees as home students and the same financial support. Financial support comes from Student Finance England, and covers undergraduate and postgraduate study for the duration of their course, providing they meet the residency requirement.
For tuition fee loans
EU nationals starting in the 2020/21 academic year must have resided in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland for the three years prior to the start of their course. The purpose of that three year residency should not have been mainly for the purpose of receiving full time education.
For maintenance loans
EU nationals starting in the 2020/21 academic year must have resided in the UK and Islands for the five years prior to the start of their course. The purpose of that five year residency should not have been mainly for the purpose of receiving full time education.
Based on current information from the UK Government, international students whose study extends beyond summer 2021 may be eligible for a visa under the UK Government’s Graduate Immigration Route, which will enable students to stay and work, or look for work, in the UK at any skill level for up to two (2) years. The structure of the course, the experiences and support made available to you are all designed with a view to developing the skills, competencies and understanding necessary to contribute in the rapidly changing work environment.
You will have access to a wide range of field trip opportunities, with many of these being overseas, which could increase your cultural awareness and knowledge of international business, key skills that can help you as you explore your potential future career options. Trips are advertised regularly and provide opportunities to understand business within different cultural environments and to develop networks with a wider range of students and organisations.

The structure of the degree allows you to experience a variety of business areas, gaining unique experience and distinguishing personal abilities. Lecturers provide a firsthand insight into fast-moving and exhilarating industries. The international campus eliminates language barriers and gives a chance to meet with people from all over the world, experience different cultures and build everlasting friendships.
By accepting your offer of a place and enrolling with us, a Student Contract will be formed between you and the university. A copy of the 2020/21 Contract can be found here. The Contract details your rights and the obligations you will be bound by during your time as a student and contains the obligations that the university will owe to you.
