Why Coventry

Coventry is a lively, multicultural city with a rich history embracing the old and new. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Cathedral Quarter where the modern architecture and ancient ruins of the two cathedrals dominate cobbled streets with bustling cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Walk through Coventry's pedestrianised city centre, and you'll see over 1,000 years of English history, ranging from the charm of Medieval Spon Street to the architectural innovation of Millennium Place.

You will find all the leading high street stores and plenty of small specialist shops to cater for your every need.

Entertainment and leisure

As a focus for recreation and leisure, the city's reputation is rapidly on the increase. There is an enormous variety of places to eat, drink, dance and relax. You can find major high street shops at the West Orchards and Lower Precinct shopping centres, with many offering student discounts.

Meanwhile, Fargo Village is home to independent shopping and tasty street food. In this one-stop creative village, some of the tenants you might come across include a bubble tea house, Escape Live, vintage clothing, a record shop, American diner, Caribbean restaurant, second-hand bookshop and micro-brewery.

Culture

If you're looking for a cultural experience, the Herbert Art Gallery and Transport Museum are worth a visit. You may also like to take in a show or two at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry's premier theatrical venue, highly renowned for staging local and national productions.

Coventry Building Society Arena hosts headline acts and The Empire, the Arches and many other pubs play live music every week.

Sport

Being in the middle of the country is fantastic when it comes to sport, as many local rivalries have been created in all directions over the years.

Two of the city's most popular sports are actually more alternative: ice hockey and speedway. You can watch the Coventry Blaze in action at the Skydome Arena, where they compete in the British Elite Ice Hockey League. Coventry Bees have competed every season as a motorcycle speedway team since 1948 - and they're not too bad at it.
