The School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Automotive Engineering enjoys a global reputation for teaching, student experience and research. In particular, our innovative Activity-Led Learning (ALL) approach is internationally recognised and has shaped the unique culture of our forward-facing Faculty, with its inspirational £55M state-of the art building hosting equipment and student facilities.
Strongly focussed on preparing our students for their first professional position and onwards into successful careers, they benefit significantly from our industrial and strategic partnerships for example with industrial placement opportunities. Our strong tradition of business-focussed research is reflected in the important relationships we have developed with companies such as: Emirates, Jaguar Land Rover, Airbus, Rolls Royce, Unipart and Birmingham International Airport.
Delivering expert education informed by world-class research, empowers our graduates as future global engineering and management professionals. We are home to the UK’s first ‘Faculty on the Factory Floor’, the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering. Our research expertise ranges from Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) to Multi Phase Fluid Flow Systems for oil and gas extraction to Human Factors in Aviation.
Students have access to outstanding laboratory facilities for example: our Mercedes Petronas wind tunnel, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) manufacturing facility incorporating a 3D-printing suite, an industry standard engine test cell, our inspirational Harrier jump jet, aircraft simulation suite as well as all the traditional experimental and manufacturing equipment that you would expect.
Working closely with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Royal Aeronautical Society, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and the Institute of Engineering Technology; the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Automotive engineering are justifiably proud to be leading the way in producing relevant, up-to-date and professionally accredited courses.
