Work with our students

Work with our students

There is a strong focus on employability within the College of Business and Law and we believe that work experience is extremely important for all our students. Our students are regularly placed within a variety of organisations and industries from micro businesses right up to large enterprises across the UK and internationally.

The variety of recruitment services available to employers range from help with designing job descriptions to assisting with recruitment days. We recognise the part we need to play in helping the UK economy thrive by actively helping employers to access its talented pool of students and graduates. By working closely with businesses, we believe we are well positioned to help organisations find the right person for the right job.

The talent pool-undergraduate students

We are looking for organisations to benefit from our talent pool of undergraduate students and the main avenues for this are through Work Placements and Work Experience.

Work placements and work experience

All undergraduate students at the College of Business and Law are given the option to undertake a one-year work placement, also known as a sandwich year. Typically, this will happen after year two and then they will return to the University to complete their final year. By working with us we can tailor this placement to benefit your company the best way we can.

We also offer the chance to apply for work experience, these opportunities tend to last for around 8-12 weeks and can vary from a long term project to a more specific task.

The talent pool-postgraduate students

Postgraduate Consultancy Project (School of Marketing and Management, School of Economics, Finance and Accountancy, and School of Strategy and Leadership)

As a key part of their qualification, postgraduate students are offered the chance to undertake a research based consultancy project to complete their studies (often instead of undertaking a dissertation). Interested students are put through a pre-selection process, with suitable candidates being eligible to apply to a selection of consultancy projects compiled by the University.

Consultancy projects, which carry course credits for students, often last for 8 to 12 weeks and involve a student undertaking a business project and preparing a relevant and useable management report.

Find out more about our Postgraduate Consultancy Project.

Postgraduate work placements

A number of Postgraduate courses within all four schools in the College of Business and Law offer students the chance to further enhance their employability by undertaking an extended professional experience of up to 12 months.

What does this mean for you as a business?

The Postgraduate Consultancy Project and Postgraduate Work Placement offer great opportunities if you don’t have the resource to carry out a project internally. You will have access to knowledgeable and professional candidates, who can work independently with minimal supervision, who are keen to learn, and eager to perform.

Please note that any work placement, work experience and Consultancy Project arrangements will be made on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the University.
