In more detail...

  • The course takes a practically focused approach, blending creative design with computing. Upon successful completion of the course, you should have developed an industry-ready portfolio of your output.

The key themes of the course are designing for the web (from front-end to full-stack), core user experience methodologies, media production, motion graphics and 3D content creation. This is supported by contemporary creative design theory.

A significant part of the course is studio based content development (web and media). Lectures and laboratory sessions are also utilised.

This course will be assessed using a variety of methods which will could vary depending upon the module. Assessment methods include formal examinations, coursework, tests, essays, practical or project work, group work and presentations. The Coventry University Group assessment strategy ensures that our courses are fairly assessed and allows us to monitor student progression towards the achieving the intended learning outcomes.

The course should enable students, upon successful completion, to pursue careers including:

  • Web developer
  • User experience designer
  • Mobile app developer
  • Digital media producer
  • Content/Asset Creator for video games
  • 3D animator
  • Motion graphics designer

Upon successful completion of this course, we would expect a graduate to be:

  • An internationally focused computing professional who is design aware, or
  • An internationally focused design professional who is programming aware

Actual teaching contact hours will vary depending on the level of study and the requirements of a particular semester. In a typical week your class time will be divided amongst personal tutorials and small group teaching; medium group teaching (e.g. seminars, tutorial sessions, lab sessions and workshops); and large group teaching (lectures). In addition, you will be expected to undertake significant self-directed study each week, depending on the demands of individual modules.

The number of hours of class time will vary from year to year: it’s likely to be around 14 hours contact per week in the first year (around six hours per week per module) dropping to around 10 (around four hours per week per module) in final year as you become a more independent learner.

The university is committed to providing a global educational experience and we encourage you to undertake a placement year or study year abroad after your second year of study. We will endeavour to support you in finding a placement anywhere in the world and in seeking financing for that experience.

Please note that placements may be subject to additional costs, application processes, meeting applicable visa requirements and availability.
