The Faculty’s Employability and Placements Unit will assist you in finding a suitable placement, which will enable you to put your studies into practice, gaining valuable experience of the world of work. However, you also have the option instead to undertake a shorter Summer Placement Module for a minimum of six weeks over the summer before or during your final year of study. Placements have been obtained in a huge range of organisations, including Rolls Royce Motorcars, DHL and SAP.

We have a range of partners where you can undertake a study abroad year during an optional enhancement year. These currently include amongst others: Oulu University (Finland), Aachen University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Silesian University, Opava (Czech Republic), Cornvinus University, Budapest (Hungary). This route gives you the opportunity to add an international dimension to your course by experiencing the teaching and learning environment of an international institution. You will appreciate the language and culture of another country, enhancing your interpersonal skills and, in turn, your employability.

Wherever possible, we will expose you to the real world of business – at times through input from guest lecturers from industry or experts in the field, which have previously included Enterprise Rent-a-car, Severn Trent and Manchester Airports Group talking to students about the skills required by employers. Our programme of industry visits similarly provides the chance to experience industry and commerce first-hand with past students visiting Samsung and Hyundai’s facilities in South Korea, the European Parliament and Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and training at the Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai.

A developing feature of the course is the use of ‘Online International Learning’ (OIL) projects. These involve students interacting with international students and staff from partner institutions in order to bring different business perspectives and a new cultural dimension to their studies. In the past, we have linked up with students at universities in Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and Hungary to investigate the intercultural skills most critical to successful international collaboration. In another OIL project for the ‘Critical Issues in Globalisation’ module, students worked with students at the Universidad del Pacífico in Lima to analyse a business case study about a famous Peruvian chef who sought to internationalise his brand, comparing their differing national perspectives. This particular case study provided an example of a relatively small Peruvian firm internationalising in developed markets and in the process seeking to grow, as well as demonstrating how Peru as a country used a particular food brand to increase its global prestige.

Teaching methods include:<br> lectures, with associated seminars, tutorials and workshops, incorporating case studies, problem‐centred learning and practical exercises.

Unconditional offers

We want to recruit the best students to Coventry and having assessed applicants' past, current and predicted performance and commitment to the course we feel that it is appropriate to reward consistently high-achieving students with an unconditional offer from Coventry University. It is a commitment from us with regard to an applicants’ potential as an excellent undergraduate and we hope that this will encourage such applicants to join the Coventry community. Personal statements and references will also be taken into account and, for some degree courses, an interview will form part of the assessment. The criteria for unconditional offers will vary across the University as entry requirements for specific courses differ and not all degree courses will be taking part in the Scheme.

We will consider other qualifications for a pre-result unconditional offer providing that you have an appropriate proven performance at GCSE (or equivalent) level and predicted grades in line with grades that we expect to see at A-level. Other qualifications that we may consider for a pre-result unconditional offer include: The International Baccalaureate Diploma, BTEC Level 3 qualifications, Cambridge Pre-U and combinations of qualifications (e.g. BTECS plus A-levels).

An unconditional offer is what it says it is. So, if you don’t meet your predictions then your place at Coventry is still guaranteed. However, we would hope and expect that you continue to work hard to make the most of your potential and be best prepared to study at university level.

We can’t but our experience over the years has shown us that students with a track record of high grades and excellent predictions are very likely to achieve those grades. Our assessment takes into account all elements of your application to allow us to take a holistic view of your potential. There is also the opportunity to apply to one of the Coventry University Scholarships if you achieve the required grades so there is a financial incentive to aim high. Unconditional offers are only made to individuals who have demonstrated their commitment so we believe their focus and determination is unlikely to waver in the final stages of their qualifications.

No, the unconditional offer is only available to those who will take up their place in 2019.
