Studied on campus or 100% online, this MBA course aims to teach students how to respond to the needs of the modern world by thinking critically and strategically in seeking solutions to complex problems.

In today’s globally connected environment, the work of a manager needs to be ethically driven and culturally sensitive. The MBA course aims to help towards establishing better career prospects and salary, upon successful completion. The MBA programme consists of three distinct but interconnected stages:

  • Certificate - The modern enterprise and business environment – how does it work?
    The Certificate phase aims to develop a resource-based view of the business enterprise and examine how value is created, including the impact of the wider business environment on the enterprise’s value creation activities.
  • Diploma - Preparing for tomorrow – what needs to change?
    In the Diploma stage the focus shifts to consider a manager’s role in developing enterprises that consider internal and external contexts, with the goal for them to create sustainable value.
  • Masters – Management in action – bringing about change   
    The Masters phase of the programme focuses more specifically on particular sectors and/or roles, allowing you the chance to complete a comprehensive general management programme or choose to specialise in artificial intelligence or healthcare management. The emphasis will be on exploring, critically evaluating and applying a range of sector/ role specific models and concepts within a practice setting. The course provides you with the opportunity to clarify and explore your career goals as you progress and encourages reflection on how your goals might be met.

By undertaking the on-campus MBA, you should develop a broad view of how businesses operate, explore strategic leadership and have the opportunity to develop innovative approaches and solutions to work-based problems.

  • You should develop a broad and holistic view of how businesses operate, including the impact of the external environment. This involves looking at an organisation from different perspectives: the organisation as a learning entity made up of individuals, as a combination of inter-related processes focused on adding value, and as a financial entity focused on creating monetary returns.
  • We will focus on exploring the role of a manager as a strategic leader and the role managers play in organisations to develop and adapt to environment changes.
  • As part of this course you will be required to develop approaches and solutions to work-based problems which are innovative and creative, and have the chance to develop the ability to be entrepreneurial in your professional practice.
  • This course will also focus on exploring and developing sector and role specific knowledge to support your career growth and future aspirations.

The course runs full time over one year, with an option to start in either September,  January, or May. You can also study this course part-time across two years.

Each module runs with 15 credits across an academic semester of 13 weeks, with the flexibility for students to study from one to two modules per academic semester.

The underlying focus is on developing your ability to think critically and strategically and to enable you the opportunity to develop solutions to complex problems within an ever changing and ambiguous business environment. As well as traditional teaching and learning methods, such as lectures, workshops and seminars, which may be delivered through a combination of face-to-face teaching and online classes and tutorials, you will benefit from additional innovative and interactive online content and activities. This opens up opportunities to participate in projects with students from around the world. The online and face-to-face contact between you, your lecturers and fellow students aims to help you stay motivated and committed to learning.

One of the key aims of the programme is to provide you with experiences of real-life organisations, so you will also be exposed to real-life case studies, simulations and engaging guest speakers from industry (subject to availability) who will share their expertise and experiences of developing strategy, managing change and growth in their organisations, bringing both contemporary and theoretical concepts to life.

Many of our teaching staff are research active and will disseminate developments in their fields, so as to encourage debate and discussion. You will also have the opportunity to conduct your own supervised research as part of your MBA consultancy project.

The contact hours may be made up of a combination of face-to-face teaching, individual and group tutorials, and online classes and tutorials. This course will be assessed using a variety of methods which will vary depending upon the module. Assessment methods include MBA consultancy project, reports, business plans, case studies, competitor analysis, self-reflections and presentations/videos.

The Coventry University Group assessment strategy ensures that our courses are fairly assessed and allows us to monitor student progression towards achieving the intended learning outcomes. Assessments may include exams, individual assignments or group work elements.

We set out below the typical teaching contact hours that you will receive on this course. In addition to the contact hours below, we offer the opportunity to attend additional optional sessions, such as guest lectures (subject to availability), or to meet with staff during their advice and feedback hours.

As an innovative and enterprising institution, the University may seek to utilise emerging technologies within the student experience. For all courses (whether on-campus, blended, or distance learning), the University may deliver certain contact hours and assessments via online technologies and methods.

When studying on-campus or online, within your first and second semester, you should have around 12-14 contact hours of teaching a week. The contact hours may be made up of a combination of face-to-face teaching, individual and group tutorials, and online classes and tutorials.

A strong emphasis is placed on the MBA Consultancy Project, or the Transforming Healthcare Business Project, in your final semester and therefore total teaching contact hours may be reduced.

 

In addition, you will be expected to undertake a significant amount of self-directed studying and revising in your own time each week, including some guided study using handouts, online activities etc.

Coventry University, as well as Coventry Business School, organise a number of national and international field trips providing opportunities to visit a range of institutions and enterprises, tour their facilities and learn about their operations. You will have opportunities to collaborate with students from around the world both in person and via our online platform.

You will also have the chance to learn direct from a range of international business leaders who are invited as guest speakers to share their knowledge and experiences (subject to availability). Furthermore the international nature of our current design and delivery course team aims to provide you with a diverse range of experiences from Asia, Europe and Africa.

  • Be an Honours graduate of any discipline, obtained from a recognised university/HE institution, or hold an equivalent qualification acceptable to Coventry Business School.
  • Have a minimum of two years post-degree full-time work experience in a management/administrative/ professional capacity 
  • Hold IELTS 6.5 if English is not the applicant’s first language. 


Students who do not fit with the above entry requirements may gain entry but their degrees and experience will be assessed for appropriate content by the Director of MBA Programmes.  

APL will be assessed and awarded in line with University regulations.

Graduate Immigration Route visa

Based on current information from the UK Government, international students whose study extends beyond summer 2021 may be eligible for a visa under the UK Government’s Graduate Immigration Route, which will enable students to stay and work, or look for work, in the UK at any skill level for up to two (2) years.
