Studied full-time over one year, this course is designed to develop your knowledge of the event and hospitality industry, developing industry-ready skills upon successful completion, as well as incorporating the advanced study of business English.

  • This course is designed to enhance your existing knowledge, skills and capabilities to respond proactively and creatively to contemporary issues in event management and hospitality operations within an increasingly global marketplace.
  • We combine the study of events marketing with hospitality management theory, aiming to provide a broad-based business education. Subjects covered include corporate planning and event marketing, live event management, strategic management and venue operations management.
  • You will explore a wide variety of contemporary issues and challenges faced by managers in the hospitality sector, both corporate and non-corporate. We will often refer to news stories and the latest research or share experiences from both national and international contexts.

One of the fastest-growing economic sectors in the world, the dynamic event and hospitality industry is also a major global employer. There is an ever-increasing demand for individuals who can market and manage events, activities and services successfully.

  • You will have the opportunity to learn how to apply business principles, including marketing theory and strategic management to the solution of hospitality and event management problems. We will also aim to utilise a variety of teaching and learning methods, such as problem-based exercises, discussions and presentations.
  • We aim to help prepare you for a career in the international hospitality industry upon successful completion of the course, and at the same time, you’ll have the chance to develop both your English language skills and intercultural competency.
  • Blending theory and practice, the course draws together your previous studies to give you the opportunity to develop your strategic knowledge and understanding in areas required by contemporary international tourism organisations.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to develop analytical, organisational, problem-solving, interpersonal, communications and project management skills, together with an appreciation of the diversity of cultures involved in developing and managing international hospitality operations.

Part of university life is undertaking self-directed learning. During a typical week you will have time that allows you to work independently to apply the skills and knowledge you have learnt in taught or facilitated sessions to your projects or assignment briefs. This self-directed learning allows you to use your research skills, consolidate your knowledge or undertake collaborative group work.

International experience opportunities

You will have the opportunity to gain an international experience in many ways2. Coventry is a multicultural university, so our diverse student and staff body is designed to help to facilitate a multicultural learning environment in which you will have the chance to share experiences with staff and students who will frequently come from many different countries. The fundamental nature of this course is also international in its outlook, studying the event and hospitality industry in different countries and cultures.

We aim to run several Collaborative Online International Learning projects on the course2, which aims to enable you to work with students across the world on a live project tackling a specific marketing challenge in global virtual and multicultural teams.

*Irish student fees

The rights of Irish residents to study in the UK are preserved under the Common Travel Area arrangement. If you are an Irish student and meet the residency criteria, you can study in England, pay the same level of tuition fees as English students and utilise the Tuition Fee Loan.

**EU Support Bursary

Following the UK's exit from the European Union, we are offering financial support to all eligible EU students who wish to study an undergraduate or a postgraduate degree with us full-time. This bursary will be used to offset the cost of your tuition fees to bring them in line with that of UK students. Students studying a degree with a foundation year with us are not eligible for the bursary.

Upon successful completion, you will have knowledge of:

You will be able to:

  • Conduct research into business problems and issues, and present the findings in an appropriate written, verbal or electronic format.
  • Analyse and produce event management solutions to appropriate business decisions.
  • Apply appropriate techniques to solve a range of different international business, event and hospitality management problems.

 

From day one, our aim is to expose you to the events industry and you will be encouraged to enhance and build your CV with practical work experience.

Our Talent Team have helped students secure volunteering opportunities2 at several local events organisations in the past – Fashion Live Events, Live Buzz Events, Ricoh Arena, Pandora Events, NEC, Barclaycard Arena, local wedding venues, Coventry Blaze, Warwick Racecourse, Conference Care, as well as various charities, including Bethany’s Wish.

Through our Talent Team, you will have the support of dedicated employability staff who are industry trained. The team can also support you with workshops and guidance on the various aspects of the employment process such as preparing your CV, interview practice and mock assessment centres.

Where our graduates work

Previous graduates of our full-time degree courses have gone on to occupy positions in the event industry within a variety of national and international companies, including The Royal Opera House, Live Buzz Events, Ricoh Arena and Pandora Events.

Further study

You can choose to continue your studies at Coventry University with the Events and Experience Management MSc. You may be entitled to an alumni discount on your fees if you decide to extend your time with us by progressing from undergraduate to postgraduate study.
