  • Masters (MA)

    The MA includes:

The cornerstone of the MA is a research project that addresses a workplace or industry-focused topic.

We regularly review our course content, to make it relevant and current for the benefit of our students. For these reasons, course modules may be updated.

In more detail...

  • 100% coursework based assessments.
  • Minimum time away from the workplace.
  • Flexibility to tailor research to suit organisational industry requirements.
  • Extensive use of virtual learning environments through a blended learning approach.
  • Student support from tutors and peers as well as access to our Centre for Academic Writing.
  • All the assignments and projects address real life issues and involve action plans for helping the individual and the organisation to achieve their goals.
  • Support for research methods will be provided as required through course residential workshops and study days, extensive web-based resources and personal project supervisors.

The Pg Certificate, the Pg Diploma and the MA Research module each has a total of ten separate study days spread across two semesters.

Students are taught using a variety of means including tutorials, skills workshops, discussion groups, study groups, moodle discussion forum, self-directed study, reading, case study analysis, online activities and one-to-one discussions with tutors (in particular during dissertation supervision meetings).

This blended approach to teaching and learning has been designed with consideration to the students working life, therefore single study days help to minimise time away from the workplace. The use of online resources adds further to the flexibility of the course delivery.

This course is 100% coursework based using a variety of written assignments, portfolios and research projects.

The Coventry University Group assessment strategy ensures that our courses are fairly assessed and allows us to monitor student progression towards the achieving the intended learning outcomes.

On completion of the Masters in Leadership and Management students will  be able to:

  • Critically evaluate research methodologies and propose a research pathway which demonstrates reliability, validity and coherence through autonomous planning
  • Select a relevant leadership and management issue and demonstrate a critical awareness of seminal and contemporary theories through originality in the application of knowledge
  • Acquire and analyse primary and secondary data demonstrating an understanding of ethical approaches to gathering data for research purposes
  • Synthesise academic theory with independently gathered research data and construct an argument to form recommendations and conclusions for the industry or organisation of choice

During each semester the students will attend five study days at our Coventry campus. Therefore a total of approximately 70 hours of classroom based teaching contact per year. This does not include additional online support, study groups or personal tutor/supervisor sessions which are arranged flexibly taking into consideration students full time working responsibilities.
