Discover our additional postgraduate work experience opportunities designed to enhance your employability and career prospects.

This page outlines the various practical experience options available to enhance your master's degree, including on-campus professional practice, external professional placements, and internships. You'll find information on eligibility criteria, application procedures, fees, and how these experiences can contribute to your academic and career development.

Note that not all options are available for every course. Please check individual course web pages before applying.

Professional Practice

This option extends your master’s degree, incorporating a 6–8-month period of on-campus, simulated professional practice.

  • You must select the master’s with professional practice option when you apply.
  • Professional practice is a guaranteed work experience opportunity. This will be a simulated, on-campus experience if you do not secure an external placement.
  • Professional practice will be integrated into your course learning and outcomes and will be assessed as part of your final project (dissertation). This means you will not have the option to do the final nine-week Internship Project.
  • The professional practice option incurs a higher fee than the 12-month master’s as well as the additional living expenses which come with taking a longer course.

Professional Placement

This option extends your master's degree by up to a year so you can complete a professional placement before undertaking your final 60-credit module.*

  • You are responsible for finding and securing your professional placement, with the support of the careers and employability team.
  • The university must give prior approval of the professional placement.
  • You must secure your professional placement by the time you have finished your first semester. Only then will you transfer onto the master’s with professional placement course.
  • You must successfully pass the first 60 credits of your course to start the professional placement.
  • The professional placement option incurs an additional fee on top of the standard master’s course fee. You will be invoiced this amount once the professional placement is confirmed. See the fees section on your chosen course page for details.*
  • The professional placement will be integrated into your course learning and outcomes.
For Coventry University courses, this will take the form of a reflective diary demonstrating your learning and engagement with the placement experience.
For Coventry University London courses, your professional placement will conclude with a 60-credit final project (dissertation) linked to your professional placement experience. This means you will not have the option to do the final nine-week Internship Project.
  • The professional placement option is subject to additional fees, living costs, visa requirements, availability, and competitive application.

Coventry University London – Internship option

This option allows you to complete a nine-week internship as part of your final 60-credit module.*

  • Your internship is subject to university approval and must be secured by the end of semester two of your course, to be completed in semester three. Our careers and employability team are available to support you with this process.
  • Internships do not extend the overall length of your course.
  • Internships are subject to competitive application; they are not guaranteed.
  • Start your internship after completing the first 120 credits of your course.
  • Your learning will be assessed via submission of a final 60-credit internship report.
  • The internship option may be subject to additional living costs, availability and competitive application.
