At the Centre for Resilient Business and Society (CRBS), postgraduate students are central to our research community. They play an active role in seminars, workshops and student-led groups, gaining opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, showcase their work and build leadership skills.
CRBS offers doctoral students a dedicated, well-equipped research space in the Jaguar Building, with PCs, monitors, lockers, and shared facilities that support collaboration and productivity.
The PhD experience is further enriched by university-wide initiatives such as poster competitions and the Three Minute Thesis (3MT), alongside comprehensive training, mentoring and career guidance provided by our Doctoral and Researcher College.
Doctoral and research students at CRBS have access to extensive resources to support their studies. This includes the option to hire a laptop, a student allowance for equipment, software, books and an additional allowance for conference presentations.
Our research responds to real-world challenges and stakeholder engagement, from businesses and banks to government agencies and local authorities. This focus on application and impact is embedded in the design of our fully-funded PhD opportunities.
Examples of our research include PROTAX, studies on the criminalisation of whistle-blowers and the use of AI in fraud detection. PhD students and early career academics contribute directly to these projects, present at international conferences and gain experience in comparative and cross-national research.
We have partnerships in the EU, Middle East, South East Asia and Africa - and a sister-centre in China (the Joint Research Centre in Finance and Law with South West University of Political Science and Law), offering postgraduate students a global study experience.
The DBA is a professional doctorate for experienced managers who want to use research to solve challenges in business. Candidates learn research skills in small cohorts with expert mentors and earn the DBA by completing original research in a thesis.
