Frequently Asked Questions

You can see which courses are available in Clearing with our Clearing course list.

In a nutshell, Clearing is how universities fill the places they still have available on their courses. It’s also a way for you to find a place if you haven’t been accepted by your Firm or Insurance choice universities. You can also use Clearing if you:

  • applied after 30 June 2021
  • didn't receive any offers (or none you wanted to accept)
  • have declined your Firm place, and so are not holding any offers

If you find that you are in Clearing (UCAS Track will tell you if you are), here is some advice.

  • Ask for advice from teachers, advisers, family and friends.
  • Don’t make any rash decisions.
  • Take time to assess the situation and your options.
  • See what courses are available in subjects you want to do and that suit your results. You can use UCAS’s new Clearing Plus option in Track, which will match you with available courses. You can also search for courses on the UCAS website or on our course pages.
  • Call the universities you are interested in and talk to their advisors and admissions tutors.
  • You may gather several offers, or maybe just one. Either way, decide which is the right one for you and refer yourself to your chosen university.
  • Try and visit that university, if the current situation allows. Alternatively, many universities offer virtual tours and open days. Have a look at our virtual tour to get an insight into life in Coventry.

Some universities will tell you the grades they accept on their website, while others may ask you to call first. Our website allows you to search for suitable courses. Give us a call to discuss your personalised Clearing offer.

Our Clearing Hotline is now open. We will be here to take your call on:

Tuesday 17 August - Friday 20 August
8:00am to 6:30pm

Saturday 21 August
8.00am to 2:00pm

Monday 23 August - Friday 27 August
8:00am to 6:30pm

Call us on +44 (0) 24 76 888 888, or chat with us online.

You can decide to turn down your original offer and choose us in Clearing instead. You can do this through a process known as ‘self-release’. Simply sign into UCAS Track, click ‘Decline my place’ on the homepage and follow the instructions.

Coventry University has a varied selection of accommodation available to students. Visit our Accommodation page for details on what’s available and how we can support you.

There's no specific closing date for Clearing. Our advice is to call us as soon as possible, although we will accept Clearing applications throughout September.

After you receive a Clearing offer to study at Coventry, you will receive an email with what steps you’ll need to take next, which will include any deadlines. To find out more read our Clearing offer page.

Due to data protection purposes, we cannot discuss general information with someone other than you as the applicant.

The exception to this is if you have a nominated person included on your UCAS application and they contact us on your behalf. If you think you’ll need to speak to us about a Clearing place, we advise that you are available to contact us so that we can help you find a suitable course.
