Student wins Leadership Award

Karen is a mature student and is the first person in her family to go to university. She is coming to the end of her 3 year BA (Hons) Sociology degree.

Karen admits that when she attended the open day during clearing 3 years ago it was like “going to the swimming baths and jumping off the highest diving board there.”

While studying, Karen has battled cancer while completing her studies but has still achieved several awards including the  ‘Breaking into News 2019’ award in partnership with ITV news.

Karen also won a ‘Student Placement of the Year 2019’ award and most recently the ‘Coventry University Student Union Gold Leadership Award for Media 2020.

Karen hopes to complete an MA in Global Journalism and Public Relations at Coventry University once she graduates and go onto a successful career in Media and Journalism. She has already made stepping stones towards this career while studying, through working for Coventry University Student Union’s radio station and media platforms.

Karen feels that she wouldn’t have been able to achieve all of the above without the help and support she has received from all of the academic staff, being made to feel part of a strong community and being given so many opportunities through Coventry University. She goes as far to say she would advise anyone else coming through clearing to...

Trust your gut – some things happen for a reason. Go with it, I did and I’ve had the best three years of my life.
