Kate's story
Student experience

Award won through volunteering

Before coming to university to study Sociology BA (Hons), Kate was an active volunteer in Girlguiding in Leicestershire.

Throughout her time at Coventry University, Kate has continued to volunteer as a Brownie leader but has also grown her volunteering experiences.

During her second year, Kate regularly took part in Make A Difference Days (MADD) organised by the university, helping at a local food and clothes bank.

After taking part in these experiences Kate became a member of the student volunteer team within the student union, working with an exceptional group of students to put on events and fundraise for charities.

Kate has recently won a Gold Leadership Award at the Coventry University Student’s Union Awards 2020 and has decided she would like to pursue a career in the charity sector.

I wouldn't have achieved my award without the support from Coventry University. Studying here you really do feel part of an academic community.
