Sport and Exercise Medicine

Dr Christopher Speers is a leading Consultant in sports medicine. He currently works as a doctor within elite sport with Aston Villa Football Club and Wasps Rugby and is the Chief Medical Officer of British Universities and Colleges Sport.

From Spring 2019 Dr Speers will be offering a fortnightly medical clinic at Coventry University Future Health. Open to the public as well as Coventry University staff and students, the sports medicine clinic will offer services to patients experiencing conditions such as:

  • Acute or chronic musculoskeletal injuries or pain requiring accurate diagnosis / prognosis / or management plan e.g. knee pain, ankle pain, hip pain, tendon pain / tendinopathy, back pain, hamstring strains etc.
  • Complex injuries that have not responded to treatment and may need further investigation e.g. MRI or Ultrasound scan.
  • Feeling ill or fatigued due to training.
  • Symptoms which are preventing or restricting an individual’s ability to participate in their chosen physical activity e.g. gastrointestinal symptoms in relation to exercise, exercise associated respiratory symptoms, overtraining syndrome, and female athlete triad.

Dr Speers is registered with all major insurance companies and patients may self-refer themselves once the clinic is up and running (expected to be February 2019). Consultation and treatments will take place in the Alison Gingell Building, Whitefriars Street, Coventry CV1 2DS.
