Coventry University (CU) is inviting applications from suitably-qualified graduates for a fully-funded PhD studentship.

As part of Coventry University’s commitment to Research Enriched Learning (REL), we are excited to invite candidates to be a part of significant changes in how teaching and learning is delivered. REL seeks to transform the potential of students at all levels, across all forms of diversity, to become leaders in their chosen fields.  Indeed, Coventry’s REL strategy aims to exploit world class research for the benefit of all students, inspiring a passion to learn to critically engage with ways of understanding real world and emerging global challenges through further study or employment.

This exciting opportunity offers the chance to be part of real change, not only informing local practice, policy and procedure, but also has scope to inform REL on an international level.

Project Details

Professional education, including university education, is most successful when it addresses real-world problems and reflects the application of theory in a highly technological society. Internationally, leading universities are embracing technology to improve the quality of teaching, learning and research in innovative and effective ways. University education continues to re-invent itself not only in its response to societal and financial pressures, but also in its attempt to positively influence the next stages of technological advances. From the perspective of university as a public good, the leading players in the sector furthermore seek to enhance the quality of life in their local community and to facilitate the futures of their graduates into further study or employment.

This study investigates the state-of-the-art of Research Enriched Learning (REL) in the context of complex workplace learning environments, co-created by industry, teaching and research. The project will leverage evidence from Coventry University’s unique experience with the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering’s “faculty on the factory floor” to evaluate the impact on stakeholders. It will develop a framework and a set of guidelines to facilitate the dissemination and implementation of best practice in future REL initiatives involving collaborations between teaching, research and industry in other disciplines.

This is a fully-funded studentship, including tuition fees, stipend/bursary, as well as additional allowances.

The successful candidate will receive comprehensive research training including technical, personal and professional skills.
