Project overview

The I-HEDU project, supported by the UK-Indonesia Disability Inclusion Partnerships Grants, is dedicated to enhancing disability-inclusive education in Indonesian higher education institutions. Through collaborative efforts between UK and Indonesian universities, the project aims to establish the Indonesia Higher Education Disability Union (I-HEDU) to address accessibility challenges and promote inclusivity and access to Higher Education for disabled students.

The project leverages collective expertise and utilises playful co-creative approaches for knowledge exchange and grassroots innovations. It builds on previous collaborations between Coventry University, Universitas Negeri Malang, and Universitas Muhamadiyah Ponorogo, focusing on engaging with disabled and marginalised communities. Previous collaborations include the award-winning ESRC-GCRF ACES project and the British Council DICE project, which have impacted marginalised communities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

Project objectives

  1. Establish I-HEDU: Create an inclusive network involving various stakeholders to address accessibility challenges through playful participatory workshops.
