Overview

In developing new e-motor products, a critical step is testing and validating designs using small batches of prototype assemblies.

This project seeks to develop and test -- in conjunction with a real automotive emotor development programme -- new processes that enable rapid, high-quality, low-cost manufacturing of prototype (or small volume production) samples of e-motor lamination stacks.

Project objectives

Develop a method for producing interlocked motor lamination components suitable for prototyping/low volume production in any motor application sector, allowing for design changes and without high tooling costs or long lead times.

Impact statement

Better understand the mechanical issues with introducing interlock features in to small stator components, feeding directly into highly skilled motor development work being done currently by the UK motor design team.

A great understanding of geometry, form and surface texture on electrical and maganetic output performance for electric motors.

Enhancement of teaching and education materials in Coventry University.

Outputs

Established partnership with ZF and HVWoodings for potential future projects.
