Project overview

XRL aims to promote innovative methods and pedagogies that blend the use of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and face-to-face collaboration to create innovative workshops, training programmes and self-assessment for future leaders. The project focuses on creating new leaders for the 21st Century by developing high quality competences and skills in the following areas: Improving productivity, Integrated technology innovation, Globalisation, Inclusive leadership, Responsible Leadership and Core leadership skills.

Project objectives

The project promotes the adoption of innovative practices in a digital era through the use of Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and innovative pedagogies to develop a new brand of digitally enhanced leadership training. The project will provide an opportunity for vocational, educational and training providers to offer courses and workshops that utilize the most up-to-date leadership competencies. The tools, resources and workshop can be used in a formal training programme, as part of work-based-leadership training, apprenticeship programmes and as part of mentoring and coaching toolkits. It will be freely available through an OER platform.

  • Societal Impact:

The project is expected to impact high-tech industries and creative businesses in the area of leadership. By empowering young leaders to improve productivity, integrate technological innovation and address globalisation, these industries will be able to respond to new business needs created by the systems impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The project is also expected to have an impact on the next generation of leaders, equipping young leaders with the tools to practice inclusive and responsible leadership. This will enable them to manage the resulting new horizontal structures, be more agile, diverse and able to capture the “digital way to run businesses.”

    Academic Impact:

This project contributes new pedagogies for young leaders to truly capitalise on the post digital age by providing practical resources and case studies. Through integrating Xtended Reality technologies with new methodologies for training and communication, the XRL project also contributes to interdisciplinary research in these areas.
