Project objectives

The literacy team have been commissioned by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) to comprehensively review the evidence on literacy development (reading, writing and spelling) from the early years to secondary school. The review will analyse the evidence for both the cognitive skills and affective factors that are important in literacy development, and also review current models of literacy development. Alongside this review, the team will also work with EEF to produce a teacher guide to literacy development.

Impact statement

The literature review will be a comprehensive guide that teachers and practitioners with an interest in literacy development can download for the EEF website. The review will be freely available online along with the teacher guidance. The teacher guidance will also be printed and sent out to schools part of the EEF Research Network and the Coventry University Research Network in September 2018.
