Project overview

This project builds on an FGM information webapp that was successfully developed for young people by Coventry University. It will adapt the app to inform frontline professionals and others working on the safeguarding of girls and women at risk of FGM. The webapp will include information about FGM, the health impacts, legal situation and safeguarding responsibilities of professionals in relation to FGM.

Research indicates that there is not a webapp available for professionals concerning FGM. This webapp plugs a real gap in the dissemination and sharing of information about FGM and where to get support and advice for professionals in the UK and is an excellent way of reaching lots of people in the shortest space of time, at a time and place most convenient to them. Most people these days have mobile smart phone, iPad, laptop or tablet and use these devices to communicate with one another and find information relevant to their lives. A web app is something anyone can look at in their home, on the bus, train, and in the workplace. It will be a very convenient way for professionals to access information and gain knowledge on FGM and be able to execute their safeguarding responsibilities. The app will enable a wider audience to be reached and will be an effective support tool to the Ending FGM project.
