OpenMed

Opening up Education in South-Mediterranean countries (https://openmedproject.eu) is an international cooperation project involving five partners from Europe and nine from the South-Mediterranean (S-M) region (Morocco, Palestine, Egypt and Jordan).

The project is focused on how universities from the designated countries, and other S-M countries (the partnership has extended now to include universities in Lebanon and Tunisia), can join as community partners in the adoption of strategies and channels that embrace the principles of openness and reusability within the context of higher education.

Using openly available teaching resources enables educators to introduce learners to new forms of learning where they can also be involved in collaborating on compiling course material and resources. Further, learners can benefit through skill development in digital fluency, pedagogies for participative-teaching techniques, the understanding of processes for appropriate licensing of Open Education Resources - and where to house them, and in the strengthening of international collaboration and connectivity.

Co-funded by the Erasmus + Capacity-building in Higher Education programme of the European Union (October 2015 - October 2018), OpenMed has stimulated transition and transformation in how reconfiguring an open education learning space (within a networked context) has facilitated partners formal and informal, experiential, interactive, online and social learning. The project partners continue to find ways to navigate a way through their similarities and differences in terms of demographic, cultural and institutional characteristics during partner meetings and in developing project frameworks and outputs to cascade onto others.
