This exciting programme has been developed to meet the needs of health care practitioners who wish to expand their practice, to be recognised as 'Advanced Practitioners'.

Mock Operating Theatre

Our Alison Gingell building includes a full-size mock operating theatre, containing scrub sinks and theatre lights. We also have a mock hospital ward so that we can study a complete patient pathway.

Life Sciences Research

Our facilities include a real ambulance, which students can use as part of their studies, and a purpose-built Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre. This allows for much improved training quality in patient care and patient safety.

Hospital Wards

We have two fully-equipped mock hospital wards, each containing 4 beds. The wards are built to NHS standards and contain moveable beds, first aid equipment and patient monitoring tools.

Course information

We have a range of taught postgraduate awards to suit your needs, from Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma to a full Master's Degree (MA, MBA, MSc, LLM).

In most cases you can decide to exit at Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma level, without carrying onto the full Master's qualification.

  • Expand the professional boundaries of clinical practice as a result of increased theoretical knowledge, interprofessional working and supervised practice.
  • Implement service developments and clinical practice via teaching, supervision, clinical audit and research and business/project management across all care groups/across the life span.

This course will be assessed using a variety of methods which will could vary depending upon the module. Assessment methods include traditional essays, but also seminars, presentations, poster production and assessment of clinical skills via OSCEs and assessments in practice. The intention is to use assessment tasks to develop practical skills useful to support advanced practice roles undertaken.

The Coventry University Group assessment strategy ensures that our courses are fairly assessed and allows us to monitor student progression towards the achieving the intended learning outcomes. Assessments may include exams, individual assignments or group work elements.

Students will attend the University for theory modules. These comprise 20 credit modules, one shorter 10 credit and one longer 50 credit project module. The hours allocated for a 20 credit module are a total of 200 hours, divided between taught and self-directed activity.

More information about the hours allocated to individual teaching activities can be provided on request.

Each module is directly linked to a portfolio module which supports the integration of theory and practice through the demonstration of achievement of recognised advanced practice competency outcomes

Entry Requirements

The course is open to applicants who hold state registered qualification as a nurse, paramedic or allied health professional.

Students will normally have studied to BSc or equivalent, and must have a minimum of 5 years' experience of which 2 years' full-time - or equivalent - experience is in the speciality they wish to have as the scope and focus for their study.

Students will normally have studied a 'health assessment module' or are required to pass a health assessment exam organised by the course leaders. Students must have the written support of their line manager and access to a suitably qualified senior clinical mentor for the duration of their studies.

The course is open to applicants who hold state registered qualification as a nurse, paramedic or allied health professional.

Students will normally have studied to BSc or equivalent, and must have a minimum of 5 years' experience of which 2 years' full-time - or equivalent - experience is in the speciality they wish to have as the scope and focus for their study.

Students will normally have studied a 'health assessment module' or are required to pass a health assessment exam organised by the course leaders. Students must have the written support of their line manager and access to a suitably qualified senior clinical mentor for the duration of their studies.

English as a Foreign Language: This course requires IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5. Pre-sessional English is available if required.

Students will normally have studied to BSc or equivalent, and must have a minimum of 5 years' experience of which 2 years' full-time - or equivalent - experience is in the speciality they wish to have as the scope and focus for their study.

Students must have the written support of their line manager and access to a suitably qualified senior clinical mentor for the duration of their studies.
