Student Life

Student Life

There are many activities for students to get involved in around campus, which is one of the reasons why we were named University of the Year for Student Experience. The Students’ Union offer sports clubs and societies for a wide range of interests; societies include cultural and international societies, music such as Wind Band, Rock and Bollywood, political and campaigning, and course-specific and special interest groups. Whether students wish to join a society aimed at promoting work experience and graduate schemes at the university, or just want to meet like-minded people to play Pokemon, they can find a society to suit them. Another advantage of Coventry University Students’ Union (CUSU) is that they actively encourage students to set up their own societies if there isn’t one representing their interests.

Sport is another key feature of life at Coventry; there are a range of sports clubs available for all abilities, including the regulars such as badminton, football and rugby as well as activities such as ultimate Frisbee, breakdancing and skydiving. The SU can provide help and guidance if students wish to establish their own sports club.

Many of our sports clubs compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) leagues; last year Coventry fielded 51 teams. The University has excellent sporting facilities; there is a sports centre directly opposite TheHub in the centre of the University with sports halls for students to book and a range of exercise classes. There are outdoor rugby pitches at Westwood Heath, a 10-minute bus journey. The city of Coventry also boasts an Olympic-size swimming pool inside their extensive sports centre less than 5 minutes’ walk from the University.
