CGE promotes and sources opportunities for Coventry University (CU) students to participate in a wide range of international activities. In 2010–11, 600 students received financial and logistical (eg accommodation, insurance) support to study, work, go on field trips, present at conferences, enter international competitions, carry out team projects, teach or volunteer abroad. Destinations have included Europe, China, India, Africa, North and South America, Australia, Japan and New Zealand.
CGE plays a key role in developing new partnerships with well-established corporate players and major universities (for academic exchanges), as well as in identifying and proposing new mobility schemes. Such initiatives create opportunities for CU students and graduates to join the graduate job market with an enhanced international outlook, whether they ultimately wish to work in the UK or abroad.
International experiences can last between one week and one year, and subsistence and travel grants are available where no other funding is offered. These opportunities are open to UK, EU and overseas students (with some restrictions for EU mobility programmes).
The International Experience Grants allow students to apply for financial support up to £500 towards a project or a placement with an international dimension.
The scheme has been very successful, and since its start in March 2009, 1000 students benefited from the funding in the first three years alone.
