Dr. Michaelina Jakala

Dr. Michaelina Jakala’s research explores the lived experiences and intersections of gender, peacebuilding and transitional justice, specifically in Bosnia-Herzegovina with a focus on civilian victims of war and marginalized groups.  She has previously worked on the successful ESRC funded Localising International Law: Examining the Outreach Strategies of the War Crimes Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina project led by Dr. Alex Jeffrey at the University of Cambridge.

Dr. Jakala has organized, chaired and presented at a variety of international conferences and workshops.  She also has experience working with young people and peacebuilding within the civil society sector in Bosnia-Herzegovina.  She is currently researching the role of young people in peacebuilding and continuing to explore civilian victims of war and marginalized groups within transitional societies.

  • Istanbul Human Security ConferenceThe Fourth Istanbul Human Security Conference, Twenty Years On: Human Security at a Crossroads will be taking place on: 23-24 October 2014. As a close collaboration between the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations (CTPSR) at Coventry University, the United Nations Human Security Unit, the Centre for Strategic Research and Analysis (CESRAN), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Turkey, and Kadir Has University in Istanbul, the conference will be hosted by Kadir Has in Istanbul. Our panel sessions address our four conference themes  in innovative and interactive formats to engage both the academic and practitioner communities.
