Coventry University has been given another global league table boost today by shooting up the 2018 QS World University Rankings.

The university is placed in the 551-600 category in the QS table, which classifies universities based on measures such as academic reputation – including teaching and research quality – their global outlook, and how highly regarded the institution’s graduates are among employers.

Coventry has risen at least 100 places in the table over the last two years, and in 2016 it was awarded four out of five in the QS Stars Awards based on its strong performance in teaching, employability and internationalisation.

The success follows last month’s Guardian University Guide, which saw Coventry placed 12th overall in the UK, and April’s Times Higher Education (THE) world rankings, in which Coventry was named as one of the world’s top institutions under 50 years old.

Vice-Chancellor John Latham said:

“Today’s rankings are a testament to Coventry’s flourishing international reputation, and to the hard work of our staff in ensuring our global outlook and teaching excellence is central to the experience of our students.

Our international standing continues to reflect how we’re connecting cultures, giving great international opportunities to our students, and reaching out to employers across the world to ensure our graduates have the skills they need.”

Next week sees the publication of the new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) outcomes – in which the government itself assesses the quality of teaching at UK unis and awards bronze, silver and gold rankings – heralding an anticipated shake up of the traditional order of higher education institutions based on teaching performance.
