A leading figurehead of the academic community is being celebrated with an honorary doctorate from Coventry University.
Professor Stuart Croft, who has been awarded an honorary degree in education, joined the University of Warwick in 2007 as Professor of International Security and has served as Vice-Chancellor and President since 2016.
In that time, he has helped to develop innovative partnerships with organisations across the area – including Coventry University Group.
Professor Croft’s expertise in international security has seen him lead significant research programmes addressing global challenges such as emerging security threats and radicalisation.
His work has been supported by organisations including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the European Union and NATO, and reflects a commitment to research that advances knowledge but also delivers meaningful impact in the real world.
I am enormously proud to receive this honorary doctorate. It means a very great deal to me, as did receiving the Coventry Award of Merit last year. Both honours speak to something I care deeply about - making a meaningful contribution to this city, this region and beyond.
And to all the graduates celebrating today, this is a very special moment. My message to you is simple - believe in your future. You leave here with a degree from a really important university, one that will be recognised across the world. Have confidence in yourselves, take that achievement with you, and know that you are capable of doing amazing things.

Professor Croft is also an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
A prolific scholar, he has authored more than a dozen books, published more than 50 academic works, and supervised 32 doctoral students, making an enduring contribution to the next generation of researchers and leaders.
He serves on several boards, including the Russell Group, Midlands Innovation and the Guild of European Research Intensive, and has previously held distinguished roles such as Ngee Ann Kongsi Professor in Singapore and Chair of the British International Studies Association.
Professor Croft has made an incredible contribution to the education sector and his forward-thinking leadership at the University of Warwick continues to benefit the wider academic community and strengthen the partnerships that are so important to organisations such as Coventry University.
