Care Leavers and Disability
Care Leavers Accommodation Support Scheme (limited places)
Coventry University is offering a Care Leavers Accommodation Support Scheme for new entrants for the September 2021-22 academic year. We have made available a limited number of fully-funded University-owned accommodations for Care leavers who will be studying the entirety of their undergraduate course at the main Coventry University and CU Coventry campuses, on a full-time basis.
The Scheme will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, subject to meeting particular eligibility criteria. Please visit our dedicated webpage for more information on how to apply for this scheme and the associated terms and conditions. You can contact a Welfare Officer at firstname.lastname@example.org who will act as your first point of contact and answer any queries you may have.
Please also refer to our Terms and Conditions for the Care Leaver Accommodation Support Scheme.
Coventry University defines a Care Leaver as:
- A person aged 25 years or under; and
- A person who has been under the care of a UK Local Authority for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14; and
- A person who has been under the care of a UK Local Authority at the age of 16 years and thereafter.
For more information about support for Care Leavers, please see the Student Support webpage.
Care Leaver Contracts
Even if you aren't part of the Care Leaver Accommodation Support Scheme, we can still help you with accommodation. Our standard undergraduate contracts are 39 or 43 weeks (subject to availability), but we will offer a 52 week contract to Care Leavers which will roll into the following year without a break in contract, and you will be offered the same accommodation in subsequent years (subject to availability).
Disabled Adapted Rooms
If you are a disabled student and require accessible accommodation, please let us know when you are making an application for accommodation by answering the appropriate questions within the online application. We have a number of adapted rooms and can also make specific adaptions where required depending on your needs, this may include the following:
- Adjustable worktops
- Shower seats
- Deaf-adapted rooms
- Support bars
- Space for wheelchair charging
- Mid-height plug sockets
- Adapted bathroom facilities
Within the online application for accommodation, you will be asked if you require any adaptations to your room. Once we have received your application, we will contact you to ask for more specific information regarding your individual requirements. We can even arrange a virtual tour for you to see your potential room. We can also set up a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) if you require one.
If you require a particular feature which does not currently exist in one of our adapted rooms, we can discuss these with you.
Please note that as these rooms are limited, we may ask for medical evidence to support any adaptation or adapted room requests.
There is also the opportunity for you to book your adapted room for the full duration of your degree, to ensure you have everything you need and you are comfortable during your studies.
You can find out more about our accessible accommodation options on the AccessAble website.
We also work closely with the Disability and Welfare team, to ensure you have all the support you need to feel at home in Coventry.
If you have any queries regarding our range of adapted accommodation, please email us at email@example.com and the team will be happy to help. All queries and applications will be treated confidentially.
