If you’re considering a master’s starting May 2026, now is the perfect time to begin planning. Coventry University offers flexible start dates for many of our courses, meaning you can begin when you’re ready. But who can apply for a May start date? What funding is available for a May master’s, and how do you apply?

Who can apply for a May 2026 master’s?

A May start date is ideal for a wide range of applicants, whether you’re looking to continue your education or start a new career.

Career changers

If you’re looking to pivot into a new industry, then a May start date is the perfect place to start. A conversion course can help you redirect your career and gain the specialist skills needed to move into a new field. Starting in May means you don’t have to wait until September to take the next step.

Recent graduates

Have you recently finished your degree and considering further study? Starting your postgraduate course in May allows you to maintain momentum.

A master’s degree provides specialised skills that can help you stand out in a competitive job market. Beginning in May may also mean entering the workforce at a different time of year, separate from the traditional September graduate cohort.

If you’re a Coventry University graduate, or in your final year with us, you may be eligible to fast track your application. Many courses also offer a 25% alumni discount.

International students

As an international student, you may not be ready to start at the traditional September start date. A master’s starting May 2026 gives you additional time to prepare your visa application and gather the necessary documentation. Now is a great time to begin preparing your application.

Working professionals

Have you considered upskilling in your current profession? Whether you’re thinking about an MBA or specialising in an area such as environmental data analytics or sports journalism a May start date offers flexibility.

Starting in May allows you to plan around professional commitments and choose a time that aligns with your career goals and work-life balance.

Upgrade a qualification

You may wish to upgrade your HND or PGCert to a full master’s degree, or top-up your undergraduate degree to specialise further in your chosen field. Building on your prior knowledge and experience can help you progress more quickly and stand out when you graduate.

Funding for a May master’s in 2026

There’s a range of options available to support your postgraduate studies. These include the UK postgraduate loan scheme, scholarships and bursaries, as well as self-funding options.
