You will automatically be eligible if:
- you live in an economically disadvantaged area of Birmingham
- you will commute to Coventry University or CU Coventry on public transportation
- you’re starting an undergraduate course in September 2024.
We’re offering free travel passes to Birmingham students who need it most. To be eligible, students must live in Decile 1 Birmingham postcode areas, as defined by the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IDM).

An applicant must have accepted their offer for an undergraduate course starting this September. You must also meet the following conditions:
- Enrol on to a full-time undergraduate course starting in September 2024.
- Currently live in a Birmingham (B) postcode which is deemed eligible (see above).
- You will commute to Coventry University or CU Coventry and not live in student accommodation in the Coventry or Warwickshire (CV) region when you commence your studies from September 2024 for the duration of your undergraduate full-time course. If you secure any accommodation other than your home address you must inform us immediately or be liable for the cost of the relevant term travel pass.
Terms and conditions
- Deadline for submission of claims is 16 October 2024.
- The travel pass is only applicable for new enrolments within the University Group (progression from existing foundation years to a degree is excluded), starting September 2024 and will be renewed for each year up to a maximum of 4 years.
- Monthly travel passes will be provided to cover each academic year (September–April).
- If students are provided a travel pass and then choose to live away from home in student accommodation they should inform us immediately or be liable for transport costs from this point onwards.
- Students who initially live in student accommodation but then choose to commute will not be eligible.
- Students who choose to do a placement year or defer their studies can pause their travel pass for a period of up to one year.
- Students retaking a full academic year will be not entitled to a travel pass during that year.
- The travel pass will be awarded at the entire discretion of Coventry University/CU Coventry.
- The travel pass is only available to full-time undergraduate students; sponsored students are not eligible.
- The travel pass outlined is not open to applicants to CU Scarborough, Coventry University London, CU London, Coventry University Wrocław, Coventry University Online.
- The travel pass is not open to international fee-paying students.
- The University's decision on the interpretation of eligibility criteria is final and there is no right of appeal.
- The University reserves the right to withdraw the discount from anyone who is found to have misled the University about any aspect of their eligibility and to seek repayment of any monies for all travel passes already paid by appropriate means.
- There is no right of appeal against the University's decision in relation to your eligibility for the travel pass. You may make a complaint if you believe that you have not been considered for the discount because of a procedural error.
- The University reserves the right to amend or withdraw the travel pass at any time.
