But global populations of this charismatic insect are in decline owing to changes in agricultural practices and a scarcity of its favoured flowers, and in the last 70 years at least two UK species have become extinct. In an effort to reverse this alarming trend, our researchers are working to deepen our understanding of the plant species found in UK gardens and allotments, and which are best to aid the conservation effort.
