Annalouise Paul Residency and Workshop Event

Annalouise Paul creates dance narratives inspired by histories, bodies and an observation of cultures and peoples. She also works closely with digital technologies and somatic practices.  Dance DNA draws on somatic ideas to develop unique movement vocabularies from bridging cultural and contemporary dance forms. Dance DNA is a ‘non-scientific’ term used to describe where movement begins in the body, identifying trigger points for initiating visceral movement and sensibilities. Hidden Rhythms refer to the intrinsic ‘character’ of a rhythm that are danced so that inherent qualities are exposed but not necessarily heard.

Direct Democracy Event

In recent years there has been a marked increase in the number of referendums and public votes.  Here in Britain, we have held some of the most headline-grabbing ones; the Brexit vote and the 2014 referendum on Scottish independence. More recently, there have been votes on immigration in Hungary, gay marriage in Australia and abortion in Ireland. Why have governments turned this form of public involvement? Is it a sign of populism? And what does it mean for representative democracy? Professor Matt Qvortrup will presents his findings based on more than 30 years of research in the field and his new publication Government by Referendum.

Factors Leading to Health Exclusion among African Refugees in Australia: The Case of Blood Donation Event

Integration programs can be difficult, as many refugees’ home countries have different health systems, they have lower health literacy, and different expectations of health services. Join us for this engaging lunch time seminar with guest speaker Professor Michael Polonsky from Deakin University, Australia.

Egregiousness and Boycott Intensity: Evidence from the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Event

Consumer boycotts are triggered by egregious events, but the literature has not distinguished the level of egregiousness from consumers’ preferences or disutility associated with a given level of egregiousness, nor has the literature studied how these two components of egregiousness affect boycott intensity. Join us for an engaging lunch time seminar with guest speaker Professor Michael Polonsky from Deakin University.
