Clean Futures is a government backed programme designed to place the West Midlands transport sector at the heart of the Green Industrial Revolution.
Supported by the West Midlands Combined Authority, Clean Futures is one of five funded programmes that make up the West Midlands Innovation Accelerator, worth a total of £33 million. Clean Futures is designed to drive forward regional plans for growth by accelerating innovation within businesses, so they can produce cleaner technologies for the transport sector.
The Clean Futures programme will focus on challenge-led areas including greener electric vehicle components, circular economy of transport, road freight alternatives, greener transport infrastructure and future fuels, which will be delivered through a major programme of work, the Accelerator.
The Clean Futures Accelerator, led by Connected Places Catapult, brings together the world-class research, facilities and expertise of Coventry University and the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation to support SMEs in the transport sector as they develop and scale sustainable technologies.
Our specialist R&D facilities found in the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) and the Centre for Advanced Low Carbon Propulsion Systems will support the SMEs as they trial, refine and commercialise their green innovations.
The programme is providing grants of up to £50,000 for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the West Midlands to develop their green transport ideas and solutions.
The Clean Futures programme is led by Connected Places Catapult in collaboration with Coventry University and the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO), and is delivered in partnership with Innovate UK, UK Research and Innovation, and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
