Coventry University Group has seen a 34% rise in the number of students on its health courses as it trains the next generation of nurses, midwives and physiotherapists.
As World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April, thousands of aspiring healthcare professionals are beginning their journey thanks to the university group – whether they are learning in England or in countries such as Sri Lanka, Egypt and Greece.
A total of 8,917 learners were on Coventry University’s healthcare courses in the last academic year, up from 6,624 in 2019/20 - a jump of 34% in just five years.
Access to healthcare is vital for all communities – no matter where in the world – to survive and to thrive. We are proud that Coventry University Group is teaching health professionals in a number of countries, as well as here in the UK, to allow that access to be a reality.
Whether that is teaching occupational therapists at our top-class facilities in Coventry, nurses in Sri Lanka or midwives in Greece, every single part of that learning makes a real difference to people every single day.
The number of students on our health courses continue to grow and proves that Coventry University Group is helping to create better futures wherever we can.

More than a fifth of the near 9,000 students were on nursing courses, including adult nursing, children and young person’s nursing, and mental health and learning disabilities nursing.
As well as teaching an array of healthcare courses at its main Coventry campus, the university group also runs courses at its other UK bases including occupational therapy and nursing associates at Coventry University London, health and social care at CU London at Dagenham, nursing courses including Return to Practice at CU Scarborough and applied biosciences and pharmacology at CU Coventry.
And more than 1,000 learners were training to become nurses in Sri Lanka thanks to the Group’s link-up with the International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS) in the South Asian country.
Students are also benefitting from the Group’s expertise in the healthcare industry in Egypt, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland and Romania with courses taught abroad including nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, dietetics and wound care management.
The theme of World Health Day 2025 is ‘Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures’ turning the spotlight on maternal and newborn health, and Coventry University has more than 200 students on our midwifery courses in Greece and its Coventry city centre campus.
