Living in student accommodation is a great way to get the full university experience. As your new home away from home, choosing the right accommodation option is important. There are lots of things to consider such as cost, facilities and location, but it all comes down to your top priorities.
Which room type is best for you?
Finding the right type of accommodation to live in can make all the difference. With so many choices available, here’s a quick breakdown of some of the common types of rooms: -
Studio: Open plan bedroom with kitchen space and ensuite.
Twudio: Open plan twin bedroom with kitchen space and ensuite.
Ensuite: Bedroom with a private bathroom and access to shared kitchen/living spaces.
Do you like to have time to yourself at the end of the day, to unwind and recharge your social battery? If so, a studio or twudio might be the right choice for you. If you prefer a shared living space where you can spend time outside your room and socialise with your flatmates, an ensuite room might be a better fit.
Location, location, location
Location is key when it comes to choosing your student accommodation. Living close to campus can help reduce transportation costs and even give you a few extra minutes in bed in the morning.
Being close to university isn’t just about getting to classes and lectures on time, but it makes it easier for you to make the most out of the different clubs and activities going on around campus.
All our student accommodation is within a 10-minute walk of the campus and local amenities.
How much does student accommodation cost?
Accommodation costs vary depending on your room type, size, and other factors such as contract lengths. We offer rooms on 39, 43 or 50-week (postgraduate students only) contract lengths aligned to course start and end dates so as a student you only pay for the length you need.
It’s also important to check what is included in your contract. At Coventry University, your rent is all-inclusive and it covers your electricity and water bills as well as contents insurance and Wi-Fi.
What support is available for students in university accommodation?
Moving into student accommodation is usually a first step towards independent living and it can take some time to adjust to your new environment and responsibilities. When you are doing your research, find out what support the university provides to students in their accommodation.
Whether you’re getting used to managing finances, meeting new people, or learning to cook, your student accommodation should be about more than just a room. Our Residence Life assistants are on hand to provide ongoing advice, support and a friendly ear to talk to throughout your time in student accommodation. They also hold a series of social events and activities thought the academic year to help you settle in and enjoy your time there.
