Making a transition into a postgraduate course is a substantial educational commitment, especially in a field like technology. My time spent at Coventry University has been characterised by a focus extending beyond baseline to include the "human factor" in advancing technology.

My course choice and why I made it

My course of choice is the MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Human Factors because of its unique blend of disciplines. In most artificial intelligence courses, there is a direct jump into algorithms and coding, but in this course, there is a much stronger emphasis on human factors design. I believe this is where artificial intelligence is headed as technology increasingly integrates into our everyday lives. Not just powerful technology, but good technology - technology that is good for society and good for human minds.

What I have found most rewarding so far: research in action

The most rewarding part of my experience so far has been getting to engage in original research. I am in the middle of a project looking into how I can best measure the amount of trust users have in predictions made by artificial intelligence. This project has helped me connect theoretical ideas with real-world behavioural patterns. The mentorship I have received from my professors has been invaluable - full of both computer science and human factor expertise.

Why Coventry University was my choice for advanced studies

I chose Coventry University for my master's because of its reputation for research excellence and how all the teaching provided is linked back to the real world. After completing my undergraduate studies I was attracted to Coventry because of the university's facilities and its ranking as one of the top universities. The atmosphere at Coventry combines academic rigor with an inclusive and diverse community.

Engaging beyond the classroom

As I pursued my course of study, I have also had the chance of being a Coventry University Student Ambassador. In this role, I have worked to bridge the gap between the administration and the student body. Whether I am assisting in Open Days or other activities on campus, being a student ambassador has provided me with a unique perspective on my university's dedication to student success and has helped me improve my communication skills while also allowing me to give back to the university that has supported me so much in my postgraduate journey.

Perspective on the City of Coventry

Coventry is more than just a place to study; it is a polished blend of history and modern city life. One of the best aspects is having the campus in the heart of the city. It’s easy to get around the city, even without the use of public transport, but finding a quiet spot by the cathedral is probably one of my favourite places. This city provides a perfect environment to concentrate on studies. It’s a multicultural city, that has helped provide me with a global perspective, allowing me to look at problems in different ways.

Conclusion

If you are looking to continue your education, Coventry University has all the tools and mindset necessary to challenge conventional thinking and expand your horizons. My time at Coventry has given me the specific skills needed to develop AI technology but perhaps more importantly, it has given me the mindset to make sure it is in the best interests of those who use it.
