Our two full-size simulation houses let you experience real-life scenarios. Analyse crime scenes, practice home visits, treat patients or assess living environments. One house is equipped with adaptive technology for hands-on learning and virtual experiences.

These smaller rooms replicate healthcare consultation rooms, giving you a real-world feel for interacting with patients and clients in a private setting.

Simulate how the human body performs at the top of Mount Everest, in the Sahara or at the South Pole. With climate and altitude control, you can test the effects of environmental conditions such as temperature and barometric pressure on the human body.

Prepare for professional life as a diagnostic radiographer with our fully functional X-ray room, image-viewing workstations and ‘Dr. P’, our student-named diagnostic radiography phantom which mimics human anatomy.

Run by final-year sports and exercise therapy students under the supervision of qualified staff, the clinic provides advice, assessment and treatment for acute and long-standing problems.

Assess the way a person moves and identify biomechanical abnormalities using our athletics track, 3D motion capture system, isokinetic dynamometers, pressure plate integrated treadmills and floor-integrated force platforms. The suite includes Olympic lifting platforms and an anti-gravity treadmill.

Our two, four-bed wards are fully adaptable to represent various hospital facilities, including a children’s ward. Learn to perform assessments, first aid, suturing, injection techniques, ECGs and more – all in a realistic healthcare environment. Nursing stations, high-fidelity manikins and relevant equipment enhance the experience.

These two single-bed wards replicate the hospital environment of seriously ill patients. Our high-fidelity manikins replicate real-life patient conditions, allowing you to practice advanced clinical skills like intubation, medication administration, and responding to cardiac arrests.

Put learning into practice in our midwifery suite equipped with delivery facilities including water birth options, a birthing chair and incubators. Manikins are used to simulate the provision of both routine and emergency care to mothers and babies.

Simulating a real surgical environment, our operating theatre suite is set up to accommodate and simulate procedures that would take place during hospital surgery. It includes a scrub room and theatre with equipment and lighting found in hospitals.

Learn to make custom orthotics and splints in this fully equipped lab. Get hands-on experience designing, making and fitting these devices which can help patients with a variety of conditions participate in everyday activities.

Gain experience in measuring physiological parameters such as heart rate and lung function. The lab features equipment including Wattbike Pros, Wattbike AtomX’s and Cortex Metalyzers for measuring expired gas. 

Each floor of the Alison Gingell Building has a mixture of desks, pods and booths for individual or group study.

The SuperLab can hold up to 250 students, making it one of the largest educational laboratories in the UK. It is well-equipped with the latest industry-standard equipment including facilities for microscopy, cell culture, haematology, DNA analysis, chemical analysis and forensic testing.

Physiotherapy and occupational therapy students can replicate a professional clinical environment, adopting hygiene and infection protocols and using hands-on techniques to treat a range of conditions.
