Agroecology and Resilient Food and Water Systems
Theme Leaders: Professor Alex Franklin and Professor Ulrich Schmutz
CAWR is recognised globally as a leading centre for research on agroecology at a time when there is growing international recognition amongst policy makers, academics, farmers and civil society of the potential for agroecology to address the environmental, social and economic problems that characterise intensive, industrialised food systems. The theme aims to make a leading contribution to developing an agroecological evidence base that will help in facilitating transitions to sustainable, equitable and productive food systems. Research aims to develop socio-technical innovations and situates the understanding of agroecology in relation to food and water systems more broadly and within the context of relevant policies, governance and social movements. The Agroecology and Resilient Food and Water Systems theme is home to researchers with expertise in human geography, social sustainability science, agroecological farming practice, social and environmental justice, food sovereignty and the right to food, environmental science and ecology, citizen science and participatory action research.
